Researching Stoners

My definition paper is on a group that doesn't get much positive publicity. When was the last time you heard of a "stoner" that was shown in a good light? Fortunately, I know that the perception of the stoner culture is ridiculous. To help me with this project, I asked a few people I knew to do a small interview. I talked to both stoners, and non smokers to get both sides of the story. When asked what they thought of when they heard the word "stoner", non smokers said such things as "lazy" or "unmotivated", while stoners said "chill", "creative", and "lazy". So one of the stoners did know he was lazy but he stated that it didn't effect him after the marijuana wore off.

The articles I've found on the B.C. Databases are all about self expression because that's the thing that most stoners agree with.

152 words, and its 11:59, Soooo getting little bit of credit is better than none, right?? I tried, but I didn't have time

  1. Your definition essay research topic is very interesting since it is such a controversial issue. As well as that there is a very limited amount of research done on marijuana that is not bias, so the definition of a stoner is very hard to define even in the mind of an individual. Without concrete evidence and an unbiased perspective the definition of a stoner is hard to solidify. One thing you said that both “stoners” and non-smokers agree on is that marijuana causes the user to become lazy, but that the stoner stated that after the effects of smoking weed have worn off they no longer feel lazy. I think you should expand your research to include different types of stoners such as: long time users, fairly new stoners, occasional users, and daily users. The stoner community is extremely diverse engulfing so many different types of people you may be able to find many differentiating point of views such as: those who disagree that stoners are lazy or even those who disagree that once the effects of marijuana have worn off that they no longer have a tendency towards laziness.

  2. I never imagined someone focusing on “stoner” in their definition essay, but I think it is actually a good idea. I myself have never smoked, but of course I do know a lot of people who do smoke. You could say that I am not exactly an advocate for marijuana use, but I understand some of the arguments that are for it. I agree with the fact that most stoners are lazy and cannot find anything better to do with their time. There are so many different productive things that a person can do with their life then sit around and smoke all day. It sounds kind of ridiculous to me. It will be interesting to see how you intend to make people have a more positive outlook on ‘stoners’. I believe that pot affects people more than others state, and over time the body begins to get a less severe affect from the pot. But it is a drug and no matter what people say, it does have a bad effect on the body. When I think of a stoner I think of someone who sits around and smokes all day. I do not see how they are not hurting themselves by doing this. But this is just my opinion and I can’t wait to see how you define ‘stoner’ when you are done with your paper.
